The Redlands California Temple is one of a series of detailed pencil drawings and paintings created by the artist Chad S. Hawkins. In 1989, at the age of seventeen, Chad started this unique temple series, becoming the original LDS artist to involve hidden spiritual images in his artwork. Before drawing each temple Chad visits the temple site to research its history, construction, and beautiful surroundings. He then returns to his studio to draw the temple by referring to his notes, sketches, and photographs.

The Redlands California Temple was built within the historic boundaries of the San Bernardino Mormon Colony of 1857. Prominently displayed directly behind the recommend desk is a stain glass depiction of the First Vision. Originating in a San Bernardino chapel built in 1930, the glasswork remained in the building even after it was sold to a Protestant congregation in 1960. In 1978, the work of art was sold to members who raised money to have it restored. In its new pristine condition, it was placed within the Pacific Avenue building in San Bernardino. This colorful masterpiece has found its final home within the Redlands Temple. Its illuminating colors and spiritual meaning now inspire visitors to the temple. As with all my temple works of art, comments the artist, I include in addition to the temple, appropriate hidden spiritual images within each drawing. To honor the significance of the First Vision, I included this transcendent event within this drawing. The young Joseph Smith and the vision of the Father and the Son are located to the left of the temple. The figures depicted in this drawing are patterned specifically after the First Vision portrayed beautifully in stained glass within the Redlands Temple.

This is a 5x7 print.
