Orlando Florida Temple Sketch

Orlando Florida Temple Sketch

The Orlando Florida Temple, located five miles southeast of Orlando, is one of a series of detailed pencil drawings and paintings created by the artist Chad S. Hawkins. In 1989, at the age of seventeen, Chad started this unique temple series, becoming the original LDS artist to involve hidden spiritual images in his artwork. Before drawing each temple, Chad researches its history, construction, and beautiful surroundings. He then returns to his studio to draw the temple by referring to his notes, sketches, and photographs.

President Spencer W. Kimball promised the Saints in Florida that a temple would be built if they were faithful. With great enthusiasm, the Saints in the region welcomed the announcement in February of 1990 that there would be a temple built in Orlando, Florida. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 20, 1992, and in October of 1994, the temple was dedicated by Howard W. Hunter. The thirteen-acre temple site is located on a knoll overlooking the citrus-fruit-growing region and the beautiful Butler chain of lakes. Its exterior is made of white cast stone containing chips of marble that glisten in the sun of the Sunshine State. In this picture, Chad has sketched an image of the Savior, Jesus Christ, in the clouds to the left of the structure, motioning us to attend the temple. LDS Church members who attend the temple are taught more about the gospel of Jesus Christ and the purpose of life. Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life. (2 Ne. 31:20).

This comes in a 11x14 or a 16x20 print.
