The Medford Oregon Temple is one of a series of detailed pencil drawings and paintings created by the artist Chad S. Hawkins. In 1989, at the age of seventeen, Chad started this unique temple series, becoming the original LDS artist to involve hidden spiritual images in his artwork. Before drawing each temple, Chad visits the temple site to research its history, construction, and beautiful surroundings. He then returns to his studio to draw the temple by referring to his notes, sketches, and photographs.

Located in Central Point, thirty-five miles north of the California border, the Medford Oregon Temple is in the center of the beautiful Rogue Valley. Until 1964, when the Oakland California Temple was completed, Church members in Oregon traveled as far as Los Angeles to perform temple work. In 1989, the Portland Oregon Temple was completed, and on 21 March 1999, plans were announced for a temple to be built in Medford. As Oregon's second temple, it will serve LDS Church members in southern Oregon and northern California. As with all of my temple works of art, comments the artist, I include, in addition to the temple, appropriate hidden spiritual images within each drawing. With the Medford Temple, my goal was to include images that would encourage both the adults and the youth to partici-pate in sacred temple ordinances. For the adults, I placed among the trees and beautiful landscaping a hidden image of the Savior with his arm extended to the front door, in the motion of encouraging all to attend the temple as often as occasion permits. To remind the youth of the opportunity of performing baptisms within the temple, I drew four oxen in the trees beneath the baptistry room of the temple, exactly where the actual baptismal font is positioned within the temple.

This comes in a 11x14 print.
